THE AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN

In March of 2021, President Biden signed the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act, which provides New Haven with $90 million in funds for social and economic recovery in the wake of the devastating COVID-19 pandemic.

The American Rescue Plan is for YOU.

The American Rescue Plan provides a once in a generation opportunity for New Haven to pilot and test transformative and catalytic programs to advance racial justice, address income inequality and close the racial wealth gap deeply informed and shaped by those closest to the issues.

New Haven launched a citywide engagement process to hear from those communities most directly impacted by these economic, and racial inequities - our low-income Black and Brown communities.

PROCESS GOALS

  • Engage residents to identify needs + priorities reduce income inequality.

  •  Acknowledge and discuss impacts of systemic racism.

  • Deepen collaboration and make policy and governance in New Haven more equitable and transparent.

  • Make policy making and governance more equitable + transparent.

 

FOCUS AREAS

The process will focus on New Haven’s racial disparities related to:

  • Intergenerational Wealth 

  • Homeownership Rates

  • Income Inequality 

  • Access to Institutional Capital

OUTCOMES

  • Pilot new or expanded citywide initiatives that aim to reduce New Haven’s racial wealth gap + promote economic power.

  • Establish pathways for ongoing stewardship and community input to evaluate + inform implementation of pilot programs.
